We have taken a number of actions to support this beautiful area, some you may notice but many you will not see. We grow all our own vegetables in Judy’s organic vegetable garden, the eggs we use come from our own free range hens. Our Kitchen waste is either composted for the garden or where appropriate fed to the Hens. We use low energy light bulbs throughout the Lodge and environmentally friendly cleaning products, no chemicals. You may note the NZ made Natural Living Toiletries in your rooms.
We have used double Glazing in all the windows and the pure wool curtains we made from our own wool give excellent insulation.
An Oasis sewerage system returns all water through a trickle irrigation system to the Garden and our rain water likewise is collected of the roof for garden use.
Hot water for the radiators throughout the house is supplied from the Stanley wood stove in the Kitchen and the solar panels on the roof. No electricity is used for this purpose the guest bathrooms being supplied hot water through a gas system.
We use a solar powered pump to supply high quality water from a well near the Hanmer River.
Judy has made extensive use of native Flax, Toi toi & tussocks to enhance the area and to encourage the native birds you will hear in the mornings.
